Bad Religion is my favorite. Otherwise Misfits, Dropkick Murphys, NoFX, The Distillers, Swinging Utters, and The Ramones are all pretty accessable. It's hard to say with punk because punk is far more experimental than a lot of other genres. What unifies punk is pretty much that it's high energy and often a bit cynical. Other than that, bands are pretty free to incorporate any other genre they like. There is ska punk, celtic punk, metalcore, street punk, Oi!, horror punk, crust punk, etc. They are more unified by attitude than musical composition or lyrical themes. Some bands (The Misfits, The Ramones) are even completely apolitical. Others (Bad Religion) have fairly reserved fashion sense (for musicians, at least).
