Topic	Never seen IT, can somebody answer some questions? (SPOILERS)

Realistically, King probably based most of their fears on stuff he was afraid of when he was a kid, because It (and Stand by Me) are pretty clearly based on a lot of his own personal experiences as a kid growing up in Maine in the 50s.
