Don't work in retail, but question: Is it generally appreciated that I put buggies back in the collection at the front of the store when I'm done shopping? I've done this at Kroger ever since 2014 since they were extremely helpful and held my items in storage while I swung back to the house to get the correct debit card.
Very much so. As long as they're not just in the middle of the parking lot, we're happy. People love the excuse of, "I'm making sure some poor schmuck is employed to bring in carts." When in reality, we just get a cashier or someone who isn't doing anything at the moment to grab the carts from outside. I've never seen anyone whose job title is just "Carter Pusher".
Whenever I see a messy cart return area, I try to straighten it up a bit to make it easier on the employees. Try to make up a bit for the asshole customers, y'know?
Actually, that reminds me. A few weeks ago I was at the grocery store and I had some time to kill before going home, so I took a few minutes to completely straighten up the cart return near the doors. It went from completely full of random carts to about 1/3 full of neat rows of carts. When I was done, one of the employees came over and actually hugged me for doing that.
