South Park The Stick of Truth

I find it pretty amazing that it took so long for a good South Park game to be made. South Park on N64 was terrible, South Park racing was boring and I'm sure that whatever other South Park games I'm missing weren't much better. Stick of Truth made me really happy in that not only was it created by the actual creators of the show, but it was also a lot of fun to play.

I'm not a full-fledged South Park fan, but my friends are and through them and watching a decent amount of the show I've gained enough knowledge to really enrich the experience. There are so many references and in-jokes it's amazing. I loved just being able to explore the town of South Park. Even the story is executed well, starting with a simple set-up that focuses around the kids that eventually spirals into world-wide panic. My favorite parts were giving Randy an abortion while that Christmas music was playing or traveling into Mr. Slave's anus, though there were also a ton of other great moments.

As a game it's also a lot of fun. A pretty typical RPG, sure, but with enough new to make it fresh. Using farts was somewhat annoying and for whatever reason it took me a long time to get past the third fart tutorial. Also, the game is damn easy--except for a select few fights. I'm really glad I got to play it, but it's also one of those games where I don't think I'll pick it up again for another few years so I forget a lot about it--it's more fun that way.

South Park: The Stick of Truth gets an 8/10
