Of course no one should be convinced of that merely because someone said so, which is why it's a totally useless line of argument (even when not disingenuous by virtue of the person believing it full stop). Explaining why things help or hurt is persuasive. Telling people they are evil accomplishes nothing, except to drive them to vote against you.
