There is a damn obvious distinction between having sex with say a six year old vs a 16 year old. A 16 year old is significantly more developed physically and mentally and may already be sexually experimenting with their peers. That does not mean I think having sex with a 16 year old is a good thing. Just comparatively a lesser wrong than having sex with a 6 year old. And there are cases where the age difference is negligible. Why the fuck should a 18 year old be considered a rapist for having sex with a 17 year old? The whole reason statutory rape is a thing(or at least the reason it should be a thing) is to punish and deter adults from manipulating and having sex with underage kids BECAUSE the difference in experience, age, power and cognitive abilities leaves them less able to understand the potential risks of sex such as STD's, pregnancy, damage to reputation, manipulation, vengeful family etc. And sadly in the worst cases severe physical harm can come from the mere act on a child as their bodies are simply not developed enough. It's similar to the reason we have child labor laws. A child is less able to understand things and much easier to manipulate and cheat for profit. It's not meant to be a tool for angry dads to punish some jackass frat boy for fucking his slutty daughter because of a 30 day age difference. That is exactly the kind of thing that can happen if you don't care about "the semantics" Note that I don't watch the show.
