Anything more than that you're effectively worthless as far as being a sane human goes.
Look at it from the driver's perspective. It is a tough habit to break once you start. You do it once, see that you can get away with it, and repeat. You begin wondering how people get caught.
This guy just happened to slip up in a big way. He now has to live with this mistake. How is that not significant enough punishment?
EDIT: I see that he had a prior DUI. That changes things a bit. The first one should have been a wake up call. I can understand the need for some jail time in this instance.
