Like I've got a fucking X painted in my face. There is no such thing as a friendship. I learned this in substance abuse but refused to acknowledge it. There are codependencies of all types. The okay looking girl might be nice to the unattractive girl but she's using her to make herself look more attractive. On the other hand, the unattractive girl associates herself with her "friend" so she will be amongst the "in" crowd. A "friend" might offer to help you get a job. Guess what? He wants somebody to have leverage over when he wants a day off on the holiday you've had planned. Naturally the other party (the parasite, if you will) feels a societal obligation to reciprocate the favor. Parasite and host. Fake, empty symbiotic relationships. The most fucked up thing is that the only people I've ever met who even began to understand me are either my brother, who must be pushed to his limits, or the people I met last summer.
