It isn't hard for people in the West to feel socially-ostracized, as most of the userbase on this forum can attest.

And socially-ostracized people are the best candidates for radicalization. (Again, as most of the userbase on this forum can attest.)

The extremism whose source lies in the Middle East finds fertile soil in such people. Thirty years ago, it might have been confined, but because of the Internet, now it finds unlimited range.

When we ostracize Muslims for their faith and give sanction to prejudice against them, as so many people on this forum are wont to do, then we are playing into the candidates' confirmation bias that the West hates Muslims, and the West wants to subjugate Muslims. (The oft-spoken refrains about American and European imperialism find good play in alienated Muslim youth in the West, the same as anywhere else.)

Hatred and exclusion are not the solution. The solution is brotherhood, tolerance, and love. Mark my words, Islamist terrorism will only grow worse under Donald Trump, and it's precisely BECAUSE of his methods. In many respects, it already has grown worse.
