In English class, someone brings up politics, and there isn't a single southern white guy in class that isn't laughing at how ridiculous Trump is. And also some people understand how society works beyond their angry talk show radio hosts. You mean liberal arts students are predominantly liberal? Who could believe that?! But sure, if you major in something useless and get stuck working at Subway, you tend to bring up politics a lot and strongly push for Democrats. Generally speaking, the less impressive the student's major, the more likely they are to overtly take strong stances on politics (granted, many of the lowest-performers also go into public sector jobs so there's also a self-interest). The largest exception to the rule is science majors whose prospects rely heavily on government funding so you're going to want to push for the party more likely to shower you with money. Liberal Arts! Women's studies! No, programming, English. My college doesn't offer any of those stereotypical classes. All the students have to take English as part of their major. The teachers don't push anything down the student's throats, but I've yet to meet a single Republican. Well, I did meet one Republican. He didn't believe in evolution either.
