ive never in my entire life seen anybody conflate these

ive seen people refer to spanking as "beating" is that what ur talkin about?

Sure.

how is that the same thing as not seeing a diff between spanking a kid and beating them to death

is that the only connotation "beating" has to you?

"a punishment or assault in which the victim is hit repeatedly."

Technically a spanking has to have multiple hits to be a beating.

Although in popular usage beating often means something more like "a brutal beatdown" than a smack or five on the buttocks. At least in my personal experience.
