MM7 does have the best Wily Battle though, so there's that. That fight is insane and there are no shortcuts for it.

Well, as far as shortcuts go, E-Tanks plow it like most Wily fights. I beat it on the first try with those. MM7's the only one I've only beaten once, so I dunno how easily I'd be able to repeat that, granted. It's certainly one of the tough ones! I think MM had relatively easy final bosses in the NES days (some are a bit tougher like 2's, some were jokes like 1/3/5), but 7/8/9's are all quite tough especially if you don't use E-Tanks/M-Tanks/Rush healing, etc. Probably the influence of the MMX series there, which favours nasty final bosses much more, relatively.

MM7 to me felt thoroughly uninspired at virutally everything and the floatiness + zoomed in feeling were both turnoffs besides. I liked 8 quite a lot despite my affinity for the 8-bit style, but 7, nope.

No, especially considering everyone raves about MM2 and that game has the Metal Blades.

Personally I don't find the buster being too powerful is the problem; heck, in some games, it's not even that powerful! It's only a problem to the extent that it crowds out other weapons. But it's also just not a well-designed feature in general IMO; I don't want to play a game constantly holding down a charge button. And yeah its effect on NES sound is rather dreadful.
