It's sad that it happened, but when an officer tells you not to reach for "it", it's probably best to assume that the officer is not a mind reader and cannot tell that what you are reaching for isn't "it". And if the cop shoots that person, who also isn't a mind reader, then they should get the fucking book thrown at him. Who cares if he doen't have hindsight? Regretting severe, fatal mistakes doesn't absolve you of responsibility for your mistakes.
