That's like saying GTA is about running around causing chaos in the city. That's fun for like 3 hours tops and than becomes pointless, and that's where Dead Rising 3 and 4 are.

Except it's even worse in Dead Rising because the zombies don't even react.

Whether you care about the characters or story is irrelevant, the game doesn't have purpose if you just kill zombies until the timer runs out, you get a game over, and you do it again. Also, the characters (the people you rescue, etc.) were often sources of comedy, while the main story acted seriously. If more of that contrast that was originally part of the series's comedy.
