TopicIt took me about 15 hours to beat a level on Halo: Reach, on Legendary Mode.

It was a FUCKING NIGHTMARE. I've never been through anything like this in a FPS before.

It was Exodus. It's the one where you have to evacuate the city, then clear the way for the air transports to escape the area. Usually, just so you know, it takes me about 1 - 3 hours to beat a Halo level on Legendary. They're damn hard, but not completely ridiculous. This level really was outrageous. It was incredibly hard, and very, very cheap. There were so many brutes; the enemies often had very heavy weapons, such as fuel rod guns and that beam weapon; even using a vehicle later on didn't help much. It was just ridiculous. I must've done at least a few hundred times. I played this over 4 or 5 days. It took me about 15 hours, or possibly longer. Maybe 17 or 18 hours. Some parts were fun, but often it was very frustrating and very stressful.

I kept thinking I was at the end of the level, then there was more. The end part, where you have to go around and area and ready and then fire the AA missile launchers, wasn't quite so bad, but still much too hard, with all the enemies, and awkward angles. Another fucking annoying thing, at least in the end bit, was how dumb the AI soldiers were. Sometimes, 4 or 5 of them would stand just 10 meters or so from some enemies, and not fire while I got shot / exploded / smashed to death. I would leave the warthog parked near the base, so it could shoot at enemies while I attacked either with a ghost or on foot, and despite a clear shot on a few enemies, the gunner on the warthog refused to attack them. This AI is really bad.

I can't believe how long this took me. Even on high difficulty settings on FPS, the really hard ones, I play through at a medium speed. This was horrible. The level was so hard and so cheap. I remember, a few years ago when it came out, playing through Reach on Normal Mode, and thinking to myself how it was quite a lot cheaper then 3 and ODST's campaign, with all the brutes, and how the level layouts were sometimes annoying, but this is something else. I've only done 3 levels so far, and the other 2 weren't so bad, but I worry that most of the game will be like this level.

To give you a frame of comparison, I'll say some extremely hard levels from other FPSs, and roughly how long they took me (sufficed to say, none were close to this bad). Downfall (World at War) took me about 3 hours; Heart of the Reich (World at War) took about 6 hours; that Chinese rooftop level (Black Ops 1) took me about 3 hours; Mile High Club (MW1) took me about 6 hours. Some of these levels were kinda cheap, and they were too long as well, but nothing like Exodus. I'm an extremely experienced FPS gamer, and I'd like to think I'm very good, but Exodus was awful. I don't understand why they made it so hard.

Thoughts on my playthrough of it, and / or the level itself?
