A Texas congressman confirmed he is working with constitutional lawyers to draft articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.

Democratic Rep. Al Green of Texas, who called for Trump's impeachment at the floor of the House of Representatives in mid May, is preparing to begin the impeachment process, The Inquisitr reported.

Green initially made the call for Trump's impeachment after numerous reports claimed that the president put pressure on former FBI Director James Comey to stop his investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who was forced to resign after it was revealed he lied to Vice President Mike Pence about his contact with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

The Texas congressman said he's received racially charged threats to his life since calling for the impeachment proceedings. He said some of the threats included lynching.

Green told C-Span on May 23 that he was not deterred by the threats and that he will in fact be moving forward with his plan to draft articles of impeachment against Trump, Newsweek reported.

“At some point, we’ll wait to see what others will do, and if no one else does, the president has committed an impeachable act, and I will take it upon myself to do that," Green said. “This is about my position. This is about what I believe. And this is where I stand. I will not be moved. The President must be impeached.”

Green accused Trump of committing obstruction of justice when he fired Comey while being under investigation and then admitting that he did so because of the probe. He said the president further incriminated himself by using intimidating language on Twitter against Comey after the termination.

“These acts, when combined, amount to intimidation and obstruction,” Green said, according to The Independent. “If the president is not above the law he should be charged by way of impeachment by the U.S. House of Representatives.”

Trump appeared to admit that the Russia scandal influenced his decision to fire Comey during an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt, which aired on national television.

“When I decided to just do it, I said to myself -- I said, you know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story,” Trump told NBC, according to The New York Times.

The Times later reported that Trump told Russian officials that he fired Comey to ease the pressure of the investigation into his campaign's ties to Russia.

"I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job," Trump told the Russian foreign minister and U.S. ambassador on May 10 during a meeting at the Oval Office. "I faced great pressure because of Russia. That's taken off."
