Unless the EU is torn down and replaced with something that doesn't seek to blow its own brains out for the benefit of German manufacturing and the virtue signalling of a political class then it's going to be screwed regardless. The US has only ever done things based on what it can get out of it. Pretending that supporting European nations is some act of solidarity is bullshit. If the EU had any sense it would look to improve relations with nations that keep the US up at night. If the US is withdrawing from a power structure then it gives an opportunity to do that.
