So after sitting on it more, I'm actually very happy with the ending. The whole show has been built on his self-sacrifice and the idea to save the people of the past.

I understand a lot of his friends may never exist now, but that comes down to a deep question.

Is it better to live in torment with brief moments of happiness or to never have lived at all?

Jack might be depressed now but he saved all of his people and his family. Happiness will come back to him and he will surely find love again.

I do wish that it was an hour long episode though and we could see more of the resolution of peace.

It's likely that the friends he met will still be born, eventually, but under peaceful circumstances.

Ashi might even be born, but without an offspring of Cthulu for a father.

However, he will likely have died of old age by then, assuming that his immortality has been cured.
