Episode 5: Eeney, Meeney, Miney... Magic!

The opening scene has like, a machinegun, but instead of bullets it is firing common mystic tropes everywhere. Will this be real magic, or magic-as-science, or some other twist? Perhaps Dr. not-Strange will have the answers once the title ends.

Not particular to this episode, but I have to note it somewhere, but the kids sure love their not-Spiderman and not-Aquaman outfits. They've worn those now on several occasions. Also on the subject of outfits, it hasn't escaped my notice that Hank is essentially Fred from scooby-doo. This leads me to believe that Dean is some kind of cosplay too, but nothing comes to mind.

Also, can I just say that my favorite part of the intro has to be the spider mech homage to the old JQ intro, complete with there being stylized images of soldiers?

Orpheus: Orpheus. I am known to men as Dr. Orpheus. And mine is to perceive and control the delicate arrangement of the cosmos.
Rusty: They give out Ph.D.s for that?
Orpheus: Junior college upstate. Communications major, minor in women's studies. But I assure you sir, the "doctor" title was bestowed on me by a higher power than a mere college professor.
Rusty: Oh of course. But this is a lab right? When I file my taxes I can call this a lab? I mean you and I have the same definition for laboratory right?

This Orpheus fellow is a bit over the top, and given everything that's come before, that's saying something. He's like, Dramatic Hamster but stuck on loop, there's just no downtime!

Dean: See Dad? I told you he was in our house.

...and Orpheus has a kid who is a female who is now giving Dean some much needed character development, bonding over tales of people getting slain while eating cereal. You know, normal teenager things.

Pairing Hank up with Brock is proving to be a good move too.

...and then Brock steps into that machine....wut.

Orpheus: Yes, a capital idea, but before we depart there is one thing I must do. [Orpheus' eyes glow and the top half of a skull on his desk opens up. He puts his finger inside it. The skull's eyes blink green.] Greetings Pumpkin. I am at Mr. Venture's lab to right that which is wrong and to repair the torn curtain of time itself. There are four puddings in the fridge. You may enjoy the contents of one of them. Dinner at 6:00.

Alright, I think I got this guy figured out, his schtick is to insert melodrama into otherwise normal moments. I can dig it.

Dean: No I just got up too fast. Total head rush. Plus, that guy's not even a Dracula. He's a necromancer. And he's pretty cool. Plus he has a daughter named Triana. Triana. Isn't that a cool name?
Hank: Dean that's great and I can't wait to hear all about her. Only Brock's stuck in Dad's thing that makes people happy. But it's all evil.
Dean: I dare you to make less sense.

OPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN *everything else but the Joy Can opens*

Honestly, I feel like I can quote just about every other line here, this episode in particular has been great like that. Orpheus and Rusty play well off each other, it is a joy to watch.
