the elite players are underpaid as is due to contract restrictions, while the "tier 2" players are overpaid. lowering the cap only helps owners short term.

the point is, a tier 2 player can take a max contract now and not win a title. Earning 15-20 mil/year. Take Joakim Noah. 72 million over 4 years. That's an amount of money worth being a perenial loser. Now with a lower cap say he had to choose between 2 mil with the cavs or 5 mil with the knicks. is 3 mil worth losing for? 70 mil sure is.
