The Sonic fanbase isn't the only fanbase known for stupid fan-characters, and furthermore, you're creating your own character. Not like some creepy fanfic writer is creating one for you. Including a custom character feature was a smart move on Sega/Sonic Team's part. This will certainly be the game's biggest selling point.
