I routinely went out of my way to talk to him about his treatment and his medications and so forth. He sought my opinion out on occasions (sometimes for things that he should have gone to his prescribers or pcp for, even). He would listen to our advice and either disregard it entirely or do the opposite. I don't think this is a flaw of personality, I think it's probably a cognitive issue, and also perhaps a an issue of insufficient treatment options available to someone in his socioeconomic class in his geographic area. He knows knows he needs better treaters, he knows he needs to be an advocate for himself, but he doesn't seem to have the capacity to do these things, and his caretakers either don't know or don't care to change anything --- "Mighty boobs." - Vlado ...
