It took two games to get the formula perfect. Don't we already have evidence that Sonic 1 is stronger than Sonic 2 in contests? Too lazy to look it up; someone correct me if I'm wrong. DKC feels like it could eaisly go the same way. The fans of both like 2 more, but 1 was just a bigger, more hyped game that reached more people, while DKC2 came out when people were already starting to look towards the next console generation. I could see DKC2 beating DKC1 directly due to some sort of rSFF (would't count on it though) but I'd expect DKC1 is stronger generally.
