Exactly. It's because this website is filled with mid 20-somethings who are self-appointed geniuses that grew up in neighborhoods that are isolated from racial issues [see: white suburbia]. They've studied MLK in the vacuum of the 60's, and are now convinced that we live in post-racial America. They wonder why race is even an issue, after all, look what MLK did for you guys! They wonder, why is this still a issue -- get over it.
Their limited perspective has led these self-appointed mid 20-somethings geniuses who've studied the Civil Rights Movement to make these kinds of brilliant conclusions. America is post-racial! Stop making it an issue and just get off your ass and start working hard for yourself! You can't blame your problems on race because Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. fixes all of this for you guys in the 60s. Stop being lazy.
The average white American living in predominantly white communities isn't going to really take the time to look at the systemic racism that exists today. They don't yet understand that the world is more complicated than they think it is. To admit that is to admit that they don't know everything. And to admit that they don't know everything is to admit that they're not their version of 'genius'. And these pricks aren't gonna do that. Their model works for them. They don't have to confront any evidence that might undermine that model on a daily basis. Nothing to suggest that MLK didn't magically fix everything. Nothing to suggest that decades upon decades of oppression has lasting effects that still exist today.
They're not exposed to any of it, and they don't make an effort to seek it out.
