Right, and therefore: The thought put into the message is what makes it personal IMO. Obviously posting "hbd" on someone's FB wall isn't a personal communication. Neither is doing the same over the phone. A phone call maybe has a greater chance of carrying a personal communication, but the phone call itself doesn't make the message more personal.
