Platinum absolutely knew what they were doing, it just wasn't enough to please the suits at MS so they killed it the same way they killed the Phantom Dust remake

If they knew what they were doing they wouldn't have had such a problem meeting deadlines.

Platinum have a reputation of working well and shining bright (no pun intended) with a tight budget and/or time frame

Meanwhile Microsoft have a reputation for being draconian towards the projects they publish and meddling heavily whenever they see fit.

Gee, I wonder who was at fault here?

All the games that Platinum made between Bayonetta 2 and Nier were either mediocre or straight trash. It's not like they have a spotless record or anything.

Hideki Kamiya (Scalebound) did not make Nier. That was Yoko Taro.

Kamiya made Wonderful 101, Ninja Turtles, Legend of Korra and other excessively mediocre titles.

All were developed by Platinum.

In this particular case it's worth pointing out that the people responsible for good games are not the same people responsible for bad games.

It's like saying modern Bioware is shit completely oblivious to the fact that the people who were part of Bioware while it was good have all left the company.
