It certainly isn't a wise or responsible thing to do. If you are supporting your family by selling drugs, you're actually selling quite a bit of drugs. To make thousands each month it has to be much more than selling weed on the side as a college student.

You risk loosing your family, getting incarcerated, assets seized that would hurt your family, etc. etc.

Pretty foolish.

I'm undecided regarding the "morality" of it, though. The type of drug would definitely help play a factor in that determination.

Well what if they can't get any other jobs?

They can. It's just probably not what they want or they don't want to put in the hours to make the money. Someone in the position who is connected in the underworld enough that stands to make thousands in illicit drug deals each month is likely a bottom-of-the-barrel person to begin with and probably is already implicated in other frauds or scams or associated with those types of people.

One doesn't just lose their job and say "I'm going to put my time and effort into seeking out people who will sell me drugs bulk drugs and seek out enough people who will trust me as a seller to sell the drugs"

Might as well spend that time advancing yourself or applying to find jobs if that's truly the case.

Right....and robots are taking their jobs and making them obsolete. But we'll just "conveniently" ignore that...
