Because unions do what you claim they don't. Probably because you can't do anything that might be a risk at a unionized job, and get in trouble for being a 'good' worker. If you do more than you are required to, you can get written up. Heck, I've worked places where two people are required to lift 2 or more 2x4s... or where you cant even hold/pass someone a tool you arent trained to operate. Unions hold back progress, and serve no purpose in modern society where labour laws exist.
