No way it's random. They're not going to forcibly remove a first class passenger or a child, for example. I'd love to see what criteria they follow, as it's bound to be insightful.
- No first class - Then you go down the frequent flyer totem pole, e.g. no platinum travelers, if possible no gold travelers, no silver travelers, etc. - No unaccompained minors.
After that all bets are off. Usually they pick the elderly and minorities, so that's suspect.
