I was listening to a podcast with one of my favorite artists and he made an interesting claim that movies and TV shows (particularly sci-fi, horror, action) in the past (80s and prior) used more creativity for costumes and make-up and special effects, whereas now it can be done more easily with computers and thus requires less creativity.
