Some people have a ton of money, but not enough to fly private. Thats pretty much all there is to understand.

Flying private's also pretty pointless, unless it's for security reasons or truly time-sensitive situations. That explanation doesn't really make it seem any less pointless.

The big secret about first class flights is that most people in first class dont actually pay for it. It is either covered by your company (for business trips), through frequent flyer miles, or an upgrade to reward loyalty.

Which still doesn't make it seem not pointless. That just changes whose money is being wasted. Realistically, if my company's willing to spend $20k to get me a super-fancy flight, I'd much rather they spend a tenth of that on a regular flight and spend the rest buying me 180 $100 meals.

Based on you logic, any form of luxury can be considered "pointless". And if your company is paying for 20K flights, I guarantee that you are getting a massive meal stipend when you arrive.
I just dont understand what point you are trying to make. Luxury by definition is wasteful.
