The real highlight of 1999 is probably the release of the Dreamcast. 9-9-99 was a great advertising slogan. The Saturn bombed here so Sega gave it one more look with the Saturn. Sonic Adventure came out and it was pretty good compared to what hit on the Saturn. Soul Calibur was a mindblowing port. The Dreamcast was kind of a half-step between the N64 and the PS2, but for that short period of time it was pretty crazy. Here was Soul Calibur, a new arcade game, running god damn perfectly. Soul Calibur still resides in the top 10 all-time on gamerankings. That game sold a console much like Tekken 3 did on the PS1 and SF2 on the SNES.

I shouldn't end this writeup without talking Tony Hawk's Pro Skater on the PS1. The Tony Hawk series is one of the highest rated series' in video game history. Looking back, it's kind of.. surprising. It's kinda funny to watch video of this game now - it's so incredibly late 90s with its style and music. It makes me want to watch the x-games and listen to reel big fish. Anyway, this game doesn't deserve to be trashed. The skate game genre had a big boom with things like SSX, Jet Set Radio, etc, and is still visible today with games like Skate 3.

Man, 1999. I'm sorry to be so negative but man.
