There are a lot of things, subtle or not, that you can do to give yourself character. I mean Akira Tozawa is more over than most of the cruiserweight division largely because he yells like an insane person all the time in his matches. I doubt showing some personality during matches would be something that would actively be worked against, and this can bleed into interviews, whatever. Getting bad writing forced on you will always be bad but the right delivery can save a lot of bad dialogue. Like how their response to Cesaro getting over with stuff he does in the ring has been to get him to stop doing it for random lengths of time?
