Well, The Shield, the Yes Movement, Summer of Punk and so on, are bigger deals to the average wrestling fan, than Misawa vs Kobashi, which is frankly an obscure feud these days.

Like, I don't think Sami Zayn, AJ Styles or Kevin Owens would trade their careers for Kobashis, when they make more money, are seen by millions weekly and perform in 60k+ stadiums when Kobashi maxed out at 55k.

When all is said and done, I think you're more likely to see the average fans rank Cesaro on a greatest workers list than Kobashi. Sucks, but the only Japanese wrestlers who are actual stars are Inoki, Rikidozan and to some extent Sakuraba.

You're not wrong, but I always hesitate to use "average wrestling fan" as a metric because you run into dangerous territory where somebody like Braun Strowman is also a bigger deal to the average wrestling fan. It doesn't sit right with me that simply being in WWE would almost automatically catapult someone's legacy over a wrestler like Kobashi's where in reality they don't even belong in the same stratosphere.
