1.I think GOP propaganda has been very successful convincing people that all political parties are the same and awful, and so a lot of people dont bother.

2.I think a lot of Americans take democracy for granted as something that will always be here, no matter how lazy and unengaged they are. As was always obvious, and as we have seen, Democracy is actually fragile as hell. An attentive voting base has to check corruption, or it will not work.

3.GOP has engaged in decades of voter suppression and rolling back initiatives to make voting easier for people. They know if everyone votes, they lose. Harder to vote equals less votes.
