After 9/11, Islamophobia fucking exploded and conservatives largely never let that shit go. They'll literally get dementia and forget their daughter's names, where they live, where they were 5 minutes ago, etc. but they still remember that they're fucking racist and hate minorities. Trump literally openly and proudly campaigned on his Muslim ban in the lead up to the 2016 election, and Trump supporters were loudly applauding it.
