I don't have a distinct #1 but as someone who admits to being stuck in the past all my musical tastes are basically from pre 2000's and I haven't hardly heard of many of the modern people who get named and don't care for the modern stuff I have been told to listen to. I also blur the lines at times between rap/hip hop and that whole debate. I will always be a person who liked

Tupac
Snoop
Too $hort
LL Cool J
Dr. Dre (That solo Chronic album is great)
Ice Cube
Ice T
Snoop
Group wise

NWA
Cypress Hill
Public Enemy (Chuck D is just amazing and deserves more recognition)
Beastie Boys
Run DMC

I leaned toward west coast influences more. I wasn't into some of the big east coast names of the time like Biggie, Nas, Jay Z and so on. East Coast wise I think more along the lines of

A Tribe Called Quest
Eric B and Rakim
Big Daddy Kane
Method Man and Redman though I'm not heavily into Wu Tang Clan.

I could list others but these were all kind of my main ones. I liked Tupac the most. But I seriously flat out love the first two Cypress Hill albums so much, Public Enemy is amazing and so were the Beastie Boys.
