I guess when you think about it, to get the "full" experience of Gen 1, you would need both Red and Blue version, so that's 100 dollars right there. Then you would need two Gameboys, another 180 dollars, and a game link cable, maybe another 20 dollars? So 300 dollars in total for the "full" Gen 1 experience.
