I cannot connect with Ghibli movies at all and I feel like I'm missing out big time. Spirited Away was good and Kiki's Delivery Service was decent. It took me 3 sits just this past week to get through My Neighbor Totoro, I felt Howl's Moving Castle was mid, and I fell asleep on Princess Mononoke. It's not like I can't do kid's movies or shows either, I just don't get what's so great.

That's because howl's moving castle is mid. It felt like it had the right pieces to be good somehow, but wasn't crazy about what they went with.

My Neighbor Totoro is ridiculously adorable. Kept waiting for the tragedy or other shoe to drop throughout that movie.

I've never really been interested in pursuing studio ghibli or anime movies per se, but the past year I'd been doing a watch through of every studio ghibli movie from the beginning in preparation of watching the one that won an oscar couple years ago which in itself was surprising what with it having miyazaki return from retirement after a decade, and his second academy award movie to boot. And quite frankly within this watchthrough I've had quite a few surprises of movies I've ended up liking.
