Lightning dodging is trivial (but tedious) if you use the spot where you can force it to come down. Turn down the music and make to sure to dodge 20 or so extra in case you miscounted.

But yeah, you absolutely need a no-encounter weapon.

I've found throughout the years that one of the nice things of the FFX minigames is that everyone has a different they hate with a passion, and they usually don't mind or even like the other ones. Always fun to discuss the peculiarities of them, their design is fascinating to me, as one can see their intent and how they all have unrealised potential.
