Nobody is calling them evil, but I also think we need to get rid of this "they're only hurting themselves" mentality because that's never true. It affects all their other relationships, too. Letting stuff like this go unchecked and being okay with people hurting themselves because we don't want to "judge" or because it temporarily makes them feel better even though it's bad for them in the long term is how it gets out of control in the first place.
