There are a handful of PS1/N64 3D games that still look decent, but yea, most are pretty rough on the eyes, and hard to control. Going back and playing shooters on the N64 controller with only one analog stick is rough. I don't know how I managed it back in the day.

Theres a range. Final Fantasies in particular stay on the cutting edge on every console, and FF10 still looks incredible.

I'd argue the PS1 FF game as far as visuals go are among the worst aging of games from that gen. The pre-rendered backgrounds scale horribly because of the low base resolution, and all upping the rendering resolution (which does do wonders for cleaning up full 3D game) does is give you sharp 3D models standing on top of really blurry and pixelated jpgs. You really need something like the Meguri Mod for FF IX or the seamless HD project for the RE games to have them looking good.
