Beating 100cc let alone 150cc is a real challenge that pushes you to master the controls, which are definitely rough but once you learn how drifting works (and you unlearn how physics in later Mario Karts work) its a treat. Its far from perfect, but I can still play it today and have a good time. Battle Mode is also pretty fun here with a buddy. --- I'll tell you where the real road lies: Between your ears, behind your eyes.
