No, the Globglogabgalab is this high because I find him I say without a trace of irony charming and cutesy. Hes designed to be a sort of librarian/caretaker of books. Hes friendly. He sings you a song when you visit him. Yes, hes a naked blob person who became corpulent after eating too many books, and yes his song its almost entirely nonsense, but thats genuinely a part of his charm. Hes a happy guy!
He looks gross, sure, with all his ripples of blob flesh and his Jabba the Hutt-esque tail. But hes not disgusting. Hes gross in a way thats coded to the media hes from. Strawinsky and the Mysterious House is a Christian animated adventure, so you cant have the characters be too spooky; they need to be distinct enough to be memorable but not so distinct to frighten (at least thats how the logic probably goes).
So we have Globby, an earnest fellow who would probably give you a ride on his blobby back if you asked him to. There isnt much to the design. Hes just a friendly guy who happens to be a naked blob person. Also his face looks like Wallace from Wallace and Gromit. The actual animation in the clip is pretty awful, but it does have a certain low fidelity charm to it, and his friendly demeanor is very clearly conveyed. So yeah, the Globglogabgalab. Better than advertised!
Somewhat pedantic of me, but the Globglogabgalab is actually a sort of the villain/cautionary tale of the movie. He wanted to know too many things, and he became a monster because he absorbed all the ideas from the books he was reading and it made him fat. It's basically a cautionary tale to tell kids not to enjoy books too much or learn from them, and to only use them when necessary. 1800s protestant-ass villain idea. Please don't ask me why I know anything about the Globglogabgalab.
