He is getting his ass kicked pretty easy compared to any of the games. Hes stomps in almost any battle besides Virgil and whatever other main villain. His healing factors also shit. In the first game he's introduced and gains a new sword by it flying through his chest and he raises himself through the hilt that's as large as his torso. In his younger years of DMC3 he's introduced to lady by taking a bullet to the head and barely being phased.

That change is understandable though to an extent. As far as the games, Dante himself has only been in real peril like twice in the entire franchise. It's cool there in cutscenes but for an entire non interactive show it would be kind of boring for him to just shake everything off. In reality he still pretty much does in the show.

I mean he recovers from having half of his skull blown apart in what had to be less than an hour at most

Him jobbing to Lady is pretty indefensible tho. I could see if he was toying with her but she just gets the upper hand on him multiple times

I'm far from high end, I just know what suits me.
