I've been playing a pokemon fangame, pokemon empyrean. This is the second fangame to really impress me (insurgence being the first). It's got a lot of cool ideas and most of them are well executed. I will say though, nullifier items and so many immunities kinda ruin the post game. I mean, i get a super form for my favorite pokemon, typhlosion, giving it almost 1000 BST eruption but then everything is just immune to fire attacks cause of nullifier held items.

The post game battle against grimm is probably the most poorly designed pokemon battle I've fought. It's best pokemon has like 5k BST and a move called delete matrix that permanently sets the pokemon it hits to level 1 with 1 hp. Also has a wondergaurd 1000 BST normal type pokemon with fighting type nullifier so it's just immune to all attacks. Also has darkrai with a 100% accurate 1 hit KO move. And the way to beat the fight isn't even satisfying, it's just using immunities to negate each mons moveset and either PP stalling them or pushing through their insane stats.

The other superboss I fought was similarly lame. Has a healing move that sets up protect and has priority with infinite PP and doesn't fail or miss no matter how times it's used (and the boss has 9999 hp). Unsurprisingly, the answer is just equip your whole team with the nullifier of that move type and burst it down before it runs out of PP for other moves.

Kind of a sour aftertaste of an otherwise really fun game. This game has a handful of fakemon and fake regional forms and I think most of em are really good and could go in the main series. Omuran shinx and teddiursa lines and valkyreon are standouts. Wiseraph is also a pretty cool psuedo-legendary. Fusion is also a cool mechanic (it's like a super powered mega evolve but if it faints you autolose since it's you fused with the pokemon). Would probably be better and more impactful if it also disabled switching out (how the heck you gonna switch yourself out?).

Every time I play one of these fangames/romhacks it makes me wanna do my own but thats way too much work for something that can't make any money.
