Admittedly it took me two watches to really get into it and I knew going in the second time that the screenwriter viewed then-contemporary NYC the same way Travis did and wrote the story for catharsis. Plus I like city settings a bunch and the movie was basically imagined as a contemporary take on a Western. But I have heard dumber reasons for people not liking stuff. As a response to the last write up, the movie doesnt glorify 1970s New York by any stretch. It just displays it like it was.
