I reread it about a year ago and really enjoyed it. My two most memorable takeaways from the reread were A) the eagles themselves pretty much put to bed the whole "why didn't the eagles just.." debate the first time they appeared by eloquently telling the party that they're not a fucking taxi service, and B) the extreme commitment to PoV narrative to the point where the party is sitting around on their hands for weeks at the Lonely Mountain after Smaug leaves when some dude shows up and says "s'up, I'm Bard, we met in Laketown but I didn't introduce myself, oh by the way I killed Smaug awhile back in this terribly exciting battle that y'all missed."
