The actual reason, if you look at the fundamental aspects on a non-partisan basis, is that X refused to ban the accounts of the ruling party's political opposition, and while X tried to argue their case in court:

When we attempted to defend ourselves in court, Judge de Moraes threatened our Brazilian legal representative with imprisonment. Even after she resigned, he froze all of her bank accounts, the company wrote. Our challenges against his manifestly illegal actions were either dismissed or ignored. Judge de Moraes colleagues on the Supreme Court are either unwilling or unable to stand up to him.

It's not really a win. You guys are literally celebrating government-sponsored censorship and control of information.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/aug/30/elon-musk-wealth-power

except Elon loves banning accounts to appease authoritarian governments

Elon Musk calls himself a free speech absolutist but has accepted over 80% of censorship requests from authoritarian governments. Two days before the Turkish elections, he blocked accounts critical of the president, Recep Tayyip Erdoan.

the difference here is the request is to ban fascists' misinformation. Elon is fighting this particular fight because he is pro-fascist, and he bought twitter to help spread fascism
