I don't think it's gonna happen without a public or private meltdown or two. I don't think the party could pull off the herculean task of selecting a new person, rallying around them, and building the infrastructure in four months. They'd have to fight through the media sharks circling about how the party failed. They'd have to deal with allegations of being anti-democratic. They'd have to deal with the fallout of skipping Harris. They'd have to deal with Republican efforts to lock in Biden/Harris on ballots regardless. They'd have to deal with the loss of funding that's restricted to Biden/Harris. There's countless other obstacles as well.

It's an incredibly dicey position we're in. It's unfair. It's stupid. It never should have happened. But rallying around Biden is probably the best bet as long as Biden emphasizes Democratic strengths and effectively target's Trump's weaknesses/juices the anti-Trump vote. Basically, we're relying on the immune system of democracy when faced directly with fascism.
